Game Development Program

The University of Texas at Austin Game Development Program educates students for careers in and creative leadership for interactive media companies, especially for game, mobile, and social-media companies. The program is richly interdisciplinary, real-world-project driven, team-structured, and cooperatively designed by UT faculty and industry representatives. The University of Texas at Austin consistently ranks in the top 10 in the Departments of Computer Science and Radio-Television-Film, and has an award winning College of Fine Arts.

Participating students learn game development skills within each of the following degree programs: art and music (College of Fine Arts), networking, distributed systems, and programming (Computer Science), and animation and visual effects (Radio-Television-Film). During their time at UT Austin, students, working individually and in teams, create portfolio pieces and digital games. Local Gaming companies and professionals are committed to evaluating student portfolios and hiring successful graduates. Furthermore, local organizations are committed to helping students succeed in game development, such as UT’s EGaDS! and the very active Austin IGDA.
